The Azteca design is a piece of the sacred almanac the Tonalpohualli or count of days from ancient Mexico. According to Aztec cosmology everything ultimately consists of two opposing forces with the world always on the brink of destruction from spiritual war, the war of the gods competing for supreme power. In the quest for universal equilibrium the gods were given their own space, time and people to rule over. The Tonalpohualli represents how time is divided among the gods.
We’ve inked this sacred parchment with Tontiuh’s Face of the Sun, Lord of Heaven on the front and put his battle with Xiuhtecutli god of night on the back. The battle for day and night continues…
